I am considering getting a black kuhli loach for my 15 gallon B&W setup. Right now all I have in there are 3 male HB pastel guppies and two panda corys. I want to get 2 more pandas and possibly a black kuhli loach....I'm not sure how the loach will get along with the pandas though since they both are bottom feeders. Also wondering if that would overdo the stocking in this tank. There are no live plants...all fake...with sand substrate.

Does anyone have experience putting these two fish together....and what's the concesus on the stocking I've suggested here ??

Well, not *exactly* the same two fish, but I have 3 regular kuhlis and 6 corycats (1 peppered and 5 spotted) and they get along fine. Also ghost shrimp and regular clowns. Everyone is happy.

. . .Roan- how often do you actually see your kuhli loaches? I always think about buying them but have heard you never see them
I see my kuhlis all the time. The clowns are the shy ones.

They like to swim in the current and go back and forth, back and forth across the front of the bowfront. Mostly in the morning and evening, less active in the afternoon, but one or two of them is usually out and about. I have several pvc caves and lots of hiding spots, so they probably feel pretty safe.

Spot likes to hang out at the top of the tank nibbling on the plants I have floating up there. He's usually up there all day and drapes himself over the leaves. It's quite cute :) Willy likes to sleep at the front of the tank in plain sight, usually wrapped up in the Japanese rush or the anacharis. The One-who-has-not-been-named sleeps under the driftwood during the day.

They'll also come up to the glass, if you kneel down at eye level to the gravel, flutter their gills, raise their heads and look at you.

All bets are off though, if I drop a zucchini in the tank. Then they are active all day and night until it is gone.

Thanks Roan....that's good to hear !

I don't think the clowns would like my tank very much...being only a 15 and all.....lol !!

Ghost shrimp would look nice in that tank though.....hhmm.....
ROFL! Well, they're kinda cramped in the 36g atm, I'm moving them into one of the 75gs. Not sure which one now.

Heh, at the moment my 36g looks like the Beltway during rush hour. I had to move my son's silver dollars and rasboras into the tank for a couple of days while I set up the 65gallon in his room.

I did NOT realize just how big those dollars were. I had to toss my regular net and find the one my husband bought for his reef tank. Silver is HUGE, he must be at least 4" long and as tall. Penny and Golden are big too, but not as tall as Silver (two different types of dollars). All three "oldies" are schooling in the 36 with the three new ones I bought.

It's cramped, but it must feel like heaven to them since they've been in a 20gallon since we got them.

Strange thing was I was SO worried about a mini cycle with that tank. I took the seven boes out on the 25th and put them in the new 75g and it wasn't until today that I put the 5 rasboras and three HUGE silver dollars in there. Readings after 12 hours were letter perfect. Must be all the plants. I have all the plants for the 65g floating or sitting in the 36g.

Oops, sorry for rambling

WildCat...thanks for that link to the shrimp page !! Those bumblebee shrimp would be PERFECT for that B&W tank I have !!

I'm going to have to look and ask around at the lfs here and see if I can get anyone to ship some in for me. If I'm going to get some shrimp, I'd like to get a good group of them...and at 4-6$ a piece + shipping...that's a bit more than I can handle right now ! But that was certainly a great link for seeing the many types and varieties that are out there...I had no idea there were so many for freshwater tanks !!

I'm definitely considering some type of shrimp for my tanks....those cherries would be nice for my 20Long ram tank....! (*sigh*) I'll probably just end up getting a large group of ghost shrimp, since they're so cheap and readily available and all...but I'll ask around about the others first !! :D

About the Kuhliis.....I'm betting Roan gets to see her's lots is because she has more than just one in the tank. I have read that they prefer to be with others of thier own kind and will show themselves more often if there are at least 3 to a tank. They aren't really a community or schooling type fish, they just feel safer when there's more than one or two around.
