To be honest I never thought of them as a shoaling species, even though for countless years everyone says it. And I usually kept about 2 per tank, but after buying 10 and having all of them in one tank ( Petsmart $1 algae sale), they actually do shoal. Kinda like cories, one goes one way and the whole group follows along tailing the leader oto.

I also noticed one would sit on a pile of pelia and would just wave her back fin in a left and right motion that looks like fanning, anyone know what behavior this is?

Right now they are swimming like neons lol, left and right following each other, its very cute. :hi:
Tried to take a picture, they DEFINITELY do not like flash lol.. One flash they all scatter.

you should see 200 of them together!

Its funny...I can only imagine 200. I just did a water change on the juvie tank and I would have to say that all 40+ are running laps around tank. :p:

Those are some healthy looking Otos! :) I was tempted to stop by Petsmart for the second time (last time I visited -- two weeks prior, they were sold out of Otos) but I heard some horror stories a few days ago about peoples' Petsmart Otos dying on them and decided to stick with the Otos I have already. What are you feeding them?

I have never seen such fat otos at my Petsmart. I will have to check it out.
Great looking and lots of fun to watch.

Totally forgot about this thread :S, glad I did some late night forum creeping.

The tank they are in are in my RCS/Assassin Snail tank. Totally neglected with algae seeing I just leave the light on for the subwrassertang:pelia/flame:java moss. So they have the algae, I throw in some algae wafers time by time and veggies (zucchini), and frozen bloodworms.

The picture was taken the day they were brought, so I was surprised as well Petsmart fattened them up.

I was going to buy some more the day before the sale ended ( I think it ended Feb 1?, dunno if still ongoing). I spotted about 8 and decided not to seeing I have 10 and still have to seed these among the other tanks.
