I love open top tanks but there are some fish that are known jumpers. It would be handy to have a list to reference for fish to stay away from. Here's what I have so far for jumpers:

Kuhli Loaches
Hatchetfish
African Butterflys
Arowana
Silver dollars/Pacu?
Oscars?
Those little frogs

It also will help if you keep an open top tank and share the fish you have kept with no jumpers.

Thanks

I can list all the fish I keep that have not jumped from my open top tanks.

-White Cloud Minnows
-Cory Catfish
-Flying Fox
-Otocinclus

I would also suggest that a fish will jump for a reason. That could be food or it could be water quality / tank conditions or even bullying / territory disputes.

ive never heard of an eel that didnt make an attempt of some sort.
also, larger plecos can come up with a bit of force from a deeper tank when refreshing their air bubble.

though they do not jump, you should never keep fish from the Labyrintfamilie, such as gouramis, in an open tank :)

IMO, any tankbusters can swim with enough force to eject itself right out of the water.

also, my friend had an 11 inch oscar which propelled itself right out of the water, knocking open the hood and landing on the ground. unfortunately, he was away for three days so you know he came home to a sad mess. so yeah, oscars are definite jumpers.

bettas are jumpers too, they should have a hood. snails as well, i lost a blue mystery snail and my golden mystery snail slightly damaged its shell crawling out.

also, goldfish. i used to have an open top goldfish tank when i was young and i definitely came home from school one day to one of my goldies curled up and dry behind the stand on the rug.

Please elaborate about the labrinth fish.

Also so far I have kept the fish in my sig in an open tank.

Killies are jumpers.

Add Giant Danios to the list!

Have lost two due to carpet surfing; my fault for not having a tight lid.

Found one under my La-z-boy this last Sunday when I moved the chair to move new stand in; mummified....
