I have some live rock that is about 6 years old. It has been through some rough times to were I didnt change the water for 6 months. Do ya'll think I could help kill the algea growth that forms on it by placing it in quaratine in the dark for a few days?
Thanks

In a Rubbermaid container that you can close it but not tightly with a power head and air pump (air stone) and it be a few weeks rather then a few days and you also do a small water change in this as well.

Thats perfect. I appreciate it so much old man. j/k

You might also consider adding a small clean up crew to the container. I'd limit the light as much as possible to. Before you reintroduce the rock to your main tank you should most likely wash it in s.w. to remove dormant spores etc. You should also probably consider adding some fresh premium live rock so as to reintroduce some of your small life.
Cheers

quaratine it in sw, right?

Neither words, you do a good size water change for the water has to cover the LR and you take this water that you change from your main tank and add whatever LR you be looking to treat in this method in the Rubbermaid and yes, its saltwater. And as long as your no corals and such, I agree with Max on limiting the amount of time you have your lights on, so if right now you not need it, leave them off and this too will go a good number of weeks with a series of water changes.
