I put an orange in my tank a few days ago for my mystery snail because he seems to love munching on them...

A few minutes later I glanced at the tank to see my betta "guarding" his orange and taking bites out of it!!! He knocked Fred, the snail, off of the orange and was making sure that *mean* snail didn't get any more of his orange. He must of really liked it because he picked at it for a while (he was actually eating it, too!)

Anyone else have fruity stories of their fish? (please, forgive the pun. I couldn't resist)

One of my puffer fish hangs near the filter that sucks in the water. He knows the worms get sucked in because of the vacuum, so he eats them there, not having to move, the lazy sonuvagun.

I had a female betta named Squishy, she was my fav. betta to this day, no matter where she was in the 55 gallon tank, as soon as I put my finger in, she would swim up and swim around and around rubbing my finger :) Aww.. I miss her :(

My piranhas hide behind plants and when they see me looking they scoot backwards to get back out of my view. When I move to the other side to see them, they move forward to do hide again. Very slow and careful. They could play that game for hours. Its too funny.

Very cute...

My two dwarf puffers zoom around the tank like little bee's. Its so much fun watching them weave in and out of the plants in the tank...and when one of them sees something more interesting, like a bubble, they're off to investigate. Very clever fish, I tell you.

I have a pearlscale goldfish "melon" who gives me kisses. he is also too funny because instead of moving both of his fins front and back together, he moves them "left, right, left, right" which makes it look like he is waddling. when he gets excited (mostly when I go stand in front of the tank) he starts swimming so fast he goes into a headfirst roll (for those who dont know, pearlscale goldfish are very spherical in shape) and then when he's just swimming around, sometimes he accidently swims under where the water falls into the tank from the filter, and rolling away he goes :D

I dropped an algae wafer into a tank with a paradise fish, giant trapdoor snail, and a bristlenose pleco... First one to investigate was the paradise fish- then when the pleco comes out, the paradise fish tries to pick it up and take it for himself- then the pleco sucks onto it, and starts taking it back into his turf... then the snail latches onto the algae disk and takes it inside his shell... Every time I'd drop in an algae wafer, it'd be a game of keep-away for a good 2-3 minutes.

I had a tank of about five 4-5" goldfish. One was a tortoiseshell variety, speckled with lots of different colors, blacks, grays, oranges, etc. He/she LOVED to be petted. I'd slowly stick my hand in the tank and while the other four goldfish would either run for cover or act indifferent, the torti couldn't swim over to me fast enough. It's amazing how 'individual' some fishes can be.

Other things that have amazed me was how various fish and invertibrates 'make a home'. I watched a shrimp slowly burrow a tunnel under a rock...was like watching a bulldozer at a construction site.:) I kept thinking to myself "How does it know to do that?". Another time I watched a Damsel fish make a nice 'home' for itself between two rocks. It would suck up the substrate sand, swim about 6 inches away and spit it all out, over and over again, until it had made a nice concave burrow between the rocks.

I had a pain in the butt oscar, one day he ate so much that most of the scales around his belly fell off or almost fell off. :thud:

TODAY one of my freshwater red claw crabs died cause he crawed out the tank while i was at work and dryed up. So i took him and started thinking humm would my fish eat these guys? And knowing my angel fish will almost eat anything out of my hand, i took the crab apart like anyone would to a regular big crab to get eaten. And i took some of the meet and my angel thinking it was blood worms bit it once and looked at it and was like WTF!? So he took another bite and i guess he liked it, then my two Electric Yellow Mbuna Cichlids comes up and try them and they like it.

Lets just say my Blue gourami, Gold gourami, Marble Angel, Glowlight tetras, Neon tetras, and Electric Yellow Mbuna Cichlids LOVE EM. one of my cichlids took a big bite out of em and looked like he had a white beard swiming around with it in his mouth.

So i guess fishs like crab meat!
