I just got done setting up the nutrafin plant system. I read a horror story that someone installed one and it killed all of her fish. What are the chances of that happening? I made sure to follow the directions exactly.
Thanks!

i use one, and it hasnt killed any of my fish - i doubt it could provide enough Co2 to poison my fish in a 10g (but i could be wrong). also, i dont use the refill packets for the system i use bakers yeast about 1/2 teaspoon and 1/4 teaspoon of baking powder and sugar to the bottom line in the bottom of the bottle. ive gotten about 1bps out of the system so far.. but im in the process of removing the diffuser ladder and setting up a DIY venturi reactor with my powerhead to get better diffussion.

Ok great! Yea she said her cats knocked over the bottle and it killed her fish. I have my canister hanging (I had to cut over half of the tubing) so I hope that it will be ok. I put it up almost 2 hours ago and my water is a little cloudy now. Is that normal? Also it came with a bottle of nutra plant growth. How often should I add that? There are no directions on the botttle.

No idea what that means but I'm just going to nod in agreement LOL

yeah as of right now if i knock my bottle over some of the yeast water could possibly get into the the tank but i doubt it, i do have a check valve installed on the system but it would still allow flow from the bottle to the tank.. i'm going to also be making a diy bubble counter that's placed outside of the tank i'll post pictures when i have it up and running, which would prevent that.. the bubble ladder is the diffuser/bubble counter device that comes with the system to dissolve the Co2 into the water column. im building a venturi type of Co2 reactor with a powerhead and some plastic components to do a better job of dissolving the Co2 into the water column so there's minimal loss of Co2 gas.

Be careful with those systems. I purchased the Jungle version and it was sort of a nightmare. No harm, but I about had a heart attack. set it up according to directions and dropped in the little tabs, closed the lid and boom. The lid shot off. repeated the process and it shot a big burst of bubbles into my water. Repeated the process... worked fine and produced a considerable amount of co2 that filled up the little contraption... so much so that it eventually burped an all the co2 bubbled out (it did not have a ladder it was just kinda like an upside down box so yours is different).

in the end I built the co2 reactor for less than $3.00 and used the remaining money from my Jungle purchase to buy more plants.

the nutrafin system is similar to the DIY set ups. they just package the yeast and baking soda together. btw you won't need much yeast 1/4 tsp is fine. you can tip the bottle over and get flow from the bottle to the tank the reaction will still continue and you would be pumping sugar, water yeast into the tank... but usually it's not devastating..remember you are just adding yeast ,sugar to the tank.
but if you are slow ti fix it this could cause some issues.
