How many? Can they be in planted aquaria? If not, what pleco can be in a planted aquaria.

Best to get one male and some females, (1-3).

Two males could probably live OK in that size tank, but it will be more peacefull with only one and a couple of females.

They can live with most plants, they dont usually eat them and aren't big clumsy bulldozers like the larger species.

Depending on what else you have in it and their numbers, it is up to you on how many.....I don't think one would hurt at all....

I've got one in a heavily planted 29g, and the only thing i've noticed is the BN detaching the roots of one anubias as he was chewing on the driftwood it was attached to. He eventually detached enough of them that the anubias floated away.
Other than that, the BN has been great with the rest of the plants. I'd just recommend you have plenty of wood in there for them to chew on, and chill on.

Oh! I have an anubias barteri and I guess that wouldn't work.

I think it was just circumstantial. The anubias he dislodged was "in the wrong place, at the wrong time". ;) I just reattached the anubias and its been fine ever since. I have another anubias in the same tank attached to a rock, and he has not touched it. Plus i have several other ferns attached to wood in the tank, and the BN dosen't bother them at all.

Hmm. I might give it a try then. The ones around me are $20.00 though. But, there were some on the other side of town for about 2.59 at feeders supply. I just hope he doesn't eat small snails like ramshorns, pond snails & malaysian trumpet snails. I don't why I'm saying this because I never had problems with a common pleco even eating snails. I guess I'll go look around this week and get one. I prefer the bristle males because of all of their unique barbs that they have.

Never seen a BN munch on snails or anubias roots...

Just to clear this up...

I never said the BN munched on roots. I said he detached the roots from the wood. He was chewing on the wood and nudged them off; repeatedly. This is how the anubias eventually floated away.
