Hi,
I have 4 platys in my 5 gal tank along w/ 10 guppies and 2 corys. The aquarium is only about 6 weeks old. My platys have long poop strings that have been attached for at least 2 days now. And one little guppy had one attached at its mouth. Is there a worm parasite taking over? I've searched the archives and didn't see anything about this.
Thanks in advance

The guppy has poop attached to its mouth? LOL, the poor little fella. I'm not sure if that makes me want to laugh or cry. Some pics might help.

Willy, I was just about to bring that up too.

Yurtgirl,
That tank is way overstocked. Either get a 30 gallon tank for all of those fish or get rid of most of your fish. It sounds like anchor worm to me. I don't know about the other people that are just laughing about this but poop does not hang from a fish's mouth. Do some research, compare what you are seeing to some pictures, and treat the problem starting with a larger tank or less fish.

hi,
thx for the reply. i now know that this is way too many fish. my neighbor gave me the guppies in a 1/2 gallon jar and i couldn't say no coz i felt sorry for the poor little things. I'm going to upgrade the tank but i need to wait a couple pay days. I do have a 1 gallon gold fish bowl that's not being used now. could I possible put a few in there?\
also, the poop strings fell off this morning......whew!

a pinch of epsom salt every 3 weeks will clean those mofo's out.
works on people, works on fish just the same, just dont overdo it.
my 55 takes 2 teaspoons to fertilize the plants, and the fish get cleaned out aswell.

I wouldn't put any in the bowl but immidiatly get another tank and start cycling it. Keep only maybe 3 or so guppies in there, belive it or not that is even pushing the limits.

Edit: by "there" I meant the 5 gal.
