Has anyone bought of the new pumps, the Koralia model, made by Hydor? I bought one just to see how it would work in my 75. I already have 4 power heads by another company so I bought the model 1 which is ony 400gph. I really don't think that its worth all of the money I paid for it. Anyone?:look:

Just wondering, how much did it cost you? And why don't you think it's worth that much? Is there a powerhead wich you think is better for the cost? I've been planning on adding on another powerhead to my tank and a stream pump like the koralia seems to be the best route.

I have a hydor koralia 3 and also a tunze 6045 in my 80 gallon. The hydor koralia is rated at 850gph and the tunze at over 1100gph but in terms of visible water displacement the Koralia seems to push about the same as the higher rated tunze.

They are setup on opposite sides pointing at each other and turbulence hits right in the middle of the tank. I've been happy with my hydor koralia so far, it's very quiet and has a nice mounting system, also I paid half as much for the hydor koralia ($44) as I did for the 6045. One advantage of the tunze nano stream lines is that they are smaller than the hydor koralia, but I think this would only be a factor in a very small tank. Both are relatively small and not an eyesore in my 80g.

Stream type powerheads are the way to go. Vastly lower energy consumption than the traditional powerheads with more gentle and uniform water displacement.

ive heard nothing but good thigsn about the new hydors (that is, minus the recall where they would put a few volts through you at the way beginning. lol)
but how would the aquaclear do jsut the same? they hydors move a lot more water and it is a more wide stream instead of the strait one. it allows more a more natural and even flow instead of just spots of high current. very important IMO, especialy in an sps tank

where did you buy the koralia 3 for $44? I bought mine at Big Als for $34 and that was on sale for the koralia 1.

A local fish store here in colorado. I believe their information is a little behind the times and they are still using the initial koralia price list that was in use in December. I noticed that the online retailers boosted the koralia prices in January and February after they were all selling out and they couldn't keep them stocked.

I actually tried to buy a Koralia 3 online for 49.95 about a month ago but was having a hard time finding a place with them in stock. Needless to say I was surprised to walk into my LFS and find a Koralia 3 for 43.95, didn't take long to ring that one up!
