I have Nerite snails in both of my tanks. I already know that all those white dots on my leaves and all over my driftwood are nerite eggs. I also know they won't hatch in freshwater. But can I move them to brackish water to hatch them? I have a couple small extra tanks I could setup to try. But since the eggs were laid in freshwater are they going to be good still? Will they be fertile. And can a zebra nerite breed with say a red spot nerite. I have a variety of nerites more then just multiples of one species. So maybe it would be a lost cause.

Can some snail experts chime in and let me know how hard it is to breed nerites.

Nerites will only breed in brackish to salt water conditions. Yes snails can cross breed.

I'm no expert but I'd think the eggs are probably shot, if you want to breed I'd setup a small brackish tank throw in some java ferns and a few nerites. You'll want the water between 1.005 and 1.010 with a crushed coral substrate, after they hatch it would be a good idea to raise up the salinity close to or all the way to SW levels until they develop solid shells.

Is this all snails or just nerite snails? I have golden mystery snails, of they don't have brackish conditions will they not reproduce?

Just Nerites, mystery's readily produce in FW I don't think they can tolerate brackish or salt. Nerites can live in either.

The nerites, as previously stated require healthy brackish water to reproduce. Apple/mystery snails are super easy to get to reproduce-good freshwater with many plants. Feed them lots of flake food with plenty shrimp pellets to allow them to produce many egg clutches. They lay them above the waterline so leave 5" of space between the water surface and the hood. I prefer to get at least three apple snails to get a good chance of having opposite sexes. Hope this helps to get them breeding :) be warned-my three snails easily got over a hundred offspring in less than two months!
