mystery snails

well, what species are they? In some sources the name apple snail and mystery snail are considered to be synonyms for the snails of the family Ampullariidae. The name apple snail refers to there size, colour and form, while the name mystery snail comes from the fact that the aquarium market didn't know what kind of snail it was or where it came from, so it was a mystery (snail) for them.
In other sources, the mystery snails are described as snails from the family Viviparidae. The snails from this family look very similar to the snails from the family Ampullariidae, but they do lack a lung and labial tentacles and are livebearing snails. Post some pics and we can help you identify them. Some get to the size of ping pong balls/golf balls and others can grow to the size of a tennis ball. Check out applesnail.net that can also help you ID what species they are.

Are Apple/Mystery snails OK in a big cichlid tank? I'm not sure. I know my 10" L. Pardalis (common pleco) did OK with mine but would occasionally look for algae on their shells. The snails would just close up and wait for Mr. Pleco to finish cleaning, then they'd come back out. Check with Applesnail.net to see what they say about compatibility issues. Remember that them snail folk don't like to see harm come to the snails so they will err on the side of caution as far as compatibility issues go.

how does that help me, I need to know growth rate max size(I don't trust petsmart) breeding, etc.
not trying to P.O. a mod but come on

Becca3711 is right. I've got black, ivory, and gold Mystery Snails. After some reading I've found that they are deffinately Apple snails. Go to www.applesnail.net and read the descriptions and look at the photo gallery.

Here's a picture (poor) picture of one of my ivory Mystery Snails with a M. dayanum juvenile riding on it's shell. His (her?) feelers are quite long, but I used the flash on the first picture, which scared the shrimp, which scared the snail, which made the old woman swallow the fly :grinyes:

IME, "mystery snails" refer to bridgesii (I think I spelled it right, check applesnail.net - they also have a ton of info).

Regardless of what kind they are, you should be able to find everything you're looking for and more at applesnail.net

Asking for specific information is better, as we can't know what you're interested in from just "what info do you guys have?"

HEre are some photos of my "Mystery" snail. They are pomacea Bridgesii.
