My snail keeps crawling out of my aquarium. Yesterday I found him on the floor trying to leave my room. I put him back in the aquarium and put construction paper on the back to cover up any holes. Now he crawls out of the aquarium and into my AquaClear filter. Any suggestions on how to prevent this?

you may have something wrong with your water,I have heard snails will do that if there is metals in the water, what are you amonia, nitrate and nitrite readings?

how many snails do you have? what kind?

when i had mystery snails they would climb out of the tank, finally one climbed up the front (instead of out the back) and laid eggs on the underside of the lid. once she found that spot she kept laying eggs there and didn't get out of the tank again.

Some snails will exit their tanks to lay eggs. I recall reading about people finding snail eggs in their lampshades and such.

Good idea to check your water first though.

I have the same problem of snails wanting to crawl out of the water and I don't know why. I would get a test done on your tap water (I don't mean ammonia, nitrite, etc, I mean a full test done to show everything that is in your tap water at a water treatment plant or somewhere else that does it). I am going to with mine because it worries me.

I thought someone would have jumped on this by now... Such an obvious solution...

LOL, Squawkbert!

Sam, is this the same tank that you are currently cycling? If so, it's probably a response to the ammonia/nitrite. Just my thought.

you can call your wtp and they should be able to tell you what's in the water.

I'm on a well, not "city water". I'm thinking the problem might be rust from our extremely old water tanks (which have been the same since the house was built in 1982). It would also make sense as to why one of my tanks always has a brown tint no matter what I do, and the other one looks like it's getting it too (only two tanks set up at the moment). Also, just about half an hour ago when I took my clothes out the dryer I noticed rust spots on them. So let's see if getting the tanks changed helps.
