So I got a new pleco since my old one passed away :( The old one was very active and always moving. My new one just sits right by the heater and just sits there. Many times I go over and make sure he is still breathing becuase everytime I look at my tank (about every 10 mins im home) he is sitting in the same spot. Is he just bored, what the hell is wrong with him?

EDIT: I guess this should have went in the pleco section of the forum. Sorry :p

I've noticed that young plecos aren't as active as slightly older plecos. (Once they get *really* big, I don't think they swim around much either.) Just let the little fella settle in.

Yeah I look last night and he did move (when the lights were off). I guess he is just not as active as my last guy. Oh well. Thanks for the reassurance that my pleco isnt sick or something crazy.

I would not worry too much since plecos are nocturnal but check on him during the night to see what he is doing and most of the time plecos don't move very much.

My pl*co's favorite spot is by the heater too! I've had him for a good three months now and his personality has changed a lot. He's like a cat: when he was younger, he was active and seemed almost playful. Now he just lazes around and stays in mostly one spot during the day. At night he moves around a little more, but not much.
Don't worry!

He's probably still adjusting. I had my one plec for a month and he didn't move around a whole lot, but since then he moves more. I usually don't see him swim because ones he's in an area he tends to chill there for a bit, but if I check back every now and then he might be somewhere different. Yours is probably fine.

plecos aren't known for their activeness. But I have to go along with others and say age and being reall really really used to their tanks has made my 2 bristlenoses more active. That and putting an algea wafer in the same spot everyday for months. Still they spend large parts of the day inactive and hidden.
Also I've learnt that having several hidding areas for them makes them feel more secure as they know they're always close to a bolt hole if they feel the need. When I had only one hiding place in the tank my first pleco spent all day in it.
But if your last one was very active then I think you were just very lucky with him.

Yeah ,my old pleco rarely moved. Just stayed stuck to the glass in the same spot much of his life. They are nocturnal but I think they may be a little lazy too.
