I noticed that the ranchu I recently got about a week and a half ago was spazzing around the tank before I left for school. When i got home, she was still spazzing around but I noticed a bunch of clear balls floating around her this time. I just got her so shes still in the qt by herself, from my understanding, the eggs have to be fertilized after she lays them right? is this just a lost cause, or can i do something about these eggs?

They need to be fertilized. I'd just let her eat the eggs. Expect her to expel reabsorbed eggs looking like zigzag pattern encased in slime. Eggs are nutritious but if the reabsorbed eggs are not expelled, she is at risk of suffering internal infections. Give her high fiber diet on this one.

Its my first time dealing with eggs so I was pretty excited haha, I'll feed her some peas tomorrow. What other foods are high in fiber that I can give her? At least we know this one is a girl now, the other 2 pearlscales, I still have no idea.

Could you please get photos of their vents? I've been identifying each of my goldfish by vents alone and so far, I accurately got the ID. I have some orandas whose breeding stars would not show well in contrast to tremendous wen growth and color.:duh: (Signs of aging on my part?lol)

There are so many foods you can consider to help purge out the reabsorbed eggs. Shrimps, daphnia and gel foods with squash, pears, peas and many other veggies (none too sugary nor gassy) will work absolutely fine.

Here are some good images to distinguish sexes.

I'll try to get the pictures soon! sorry I've been quite busy with school and work  I've always wondered what sex my fish were but I always figured they were too young to show any breeding stars

oh no! while doing a water change today to prepare moving my ranchu from quarantine to my display tank, I noticed she was a little more bloated than usual, and now her scales are very slightly pineconing  I've been feeding her peas in order to expel the reabsorbed eggs but I haven't noticed any of the zigzag casings. she has had big bowel movements though. Please tell me this sometimes happens after laying eggs and not dropsy! shes acting normal, eats fine, and I do 25%-50% pwc daily on my cycled qt. My girlfriend has the digital camera at the moment so the best i can do is with my cell phone, hope these help a little

Sigh...Did she eat any eggs at all? The reabsorbed eggs should have been expelled otherwise she is at risk of internal infection. I'm afraid that's the truth.:( Do you have epsom salt and metronidazole? If she is still eating, feed her Metromeds. Dose 1/4 teaspoon of epsom salt in her tank.

yes she ate some of the eggs, I do have epsoms salts, and I'll dose her tank as soon as I get the aquarium salt out of there  is there anything else i can do other than the metromeds and epsom?
