does anybody use mopani wood in their tank? it says that it does not rot like driftwood. it is an african hardwood. picked up 1 sm piece and one large piece just wanted to hear some feedback to see if i made a good choice thanks

I think you made a good choice. It can be quite beautiful but like many driftwoods can and most likely will leach tannins into the water. Carbon and water changes can help clear up the stained water (along with time, in some cases LOTS of time)

I love my mopani wood. It has a lot more character then my Malaysian piece.

I have a piece of mopani wood in my 80g tank and some small fragments of it in my 13g reef. THey're both very nice, and i didnt have to deal with the tannin water. Although, unlike Iceh20, i prefer malaysian driftwood. I like the dark red color of it a lot more.

I have both in the same tank so im not sure which one leechs more...

will the leached tannins hurt the fish at all? i know that the ph drops but is there anything else.

ANd the pH drop is highly over rated, IMO.

I agree rbishop. If you have a modest kH, your ph wont budge a bit
