does anybody use mopani wood in their tank? it says that it does not rot like driftwood. it is an african hardwood. picked up 1 sm piece and one large piece just wanted to hear some feedback to see if i made a good choice thanks
I think you made a good choice. It can be quite beautiful but like many driftwoods can and most likely will leach tannins into the water. Carbon and water changes can help clear up the stained water (along with time, in some cases LOTS of time)
I have a piece of mopani wood in my 80g tank and some small fragments of it in my 13g reef. THey're both very nice, and i didnt have to deal with the tannin water. Although, unlike Iceh20, i prefer malaysian driftwood. I like the dark red color of it a lot more.
no it won't hurt the fish. i have a piece in my 120 and it has slowed on the tannins, i also have a Malaysian piece in my 60 and so far has not leached anything. all did was soak that one for 3 hours and dumped it in the tank.
