I am trying to simulate moonlight for some of my nocturnal fish, I have a small night light with a blueish bulb on the tank right now

but I think its too bright and scares off the plecos and raphiels, is there somthing I can do about this?

Move the light away from the top of the tank, or shade it using heavy cardboard cut to fit inside the shade.

They also sell moonlights that clip onto the top of the tank--think they are less than $5 each.

I just built myself a moon light system with blue leds, for about $15. I'll try to post a picture tomorrow.

If you are confident with electricity or a friend of your know how to connect leds, you could buy your too.

I know my system works because a clown knife I have only lurks in the dark, and is not affraid of the blueish light.

maybe that would work, if it's possible can you post a pic of that, I need a soloution so I can see my fish w/o them being scared to come out

hmm

one thing I discovered when putting the cardboard in to give it a more realistic look to the water, the ambient light coming from outside the aquarium can really affect the lighting in the aquarium. I cut sheets of poster board to fit the back, sides, and area where my filter and thermometer go in to cut down on the light, and it made a huge difference.
