Molly fry coloration

My molly gave birth to 2 fry yesterday... I put them in their own tank to protect them from her. Right now they are fairly clear with the body being a dark yellow/orange color with BIG black eyes. The mother is a dalmation... how and when will the color of the fry develop? :confused:

My mollys haven’t had babies yet, but I do see the same thing with my platys. It takes a few weeks to get the color in them. I know this doesn’t help much, but at least it’s a reply.
 
It depends on what type of molly breed your female. Most likely they will begin to show coloration after 3 weeks (that is how long mine take). But, like I said, it depends on what male breed them.
 
I have 6 brand new molly fry. They are all jet black. Mom is a dalmatian and dad black, so it will be interesting to see if any turn into dalmatians, or if the dalmatian gene is recessive.

I think when it comes to Mollies you can't really tell what genes are ressesive. They breed so readily with each other that a mix of genes could be contained in any one fish. So who knows, maybe you will get a dalmation ballon molly.
 
You will see the colouration change over time. I haven't bred mollies, but did have calico platies. The female mated with a mickey mouse male...some fry had definite orange colouration like the male, and the calico spots showed up gradually...some fry had more than others.
 
i have molly fry and platy fry that seem to be born at the same time and can always tell which are the molly fry (dalmation) and which are the platy within two days.

One of the fry has a small black dot on the tail but still orange other than that... I have no clue what the male was like... was pregers when I bought her (apparently) because I have not had any other mollies. Will keep you all posted... thanks for your replies! :hi:
