Hey,

Do ya'll know, is it safe to use products with microban for fish?
(it's that stuff in some kitchen stuff to reduce bacteria growth.)
Thanks.

microban is not safe at all. it is an anti-microbial cleaner and when used correctly a germicide and a bactericide.

alright, thanks, good to know.
I just thought it was a treatment or something in how they made the stuff.
Glad I thought to ask first.

it kind of is a treatment embedded into the caulk. it's to prevent microbial growth in frequently wet areas. that's why you see it more in kitchen and bath caulk. however... i used to work with the stuff just bottled in liquid form and can assure you it's not anything you want anywhere near anything you're trying to purposely establish media. think of it like spraying lysol in your tank trying to get rid of the earthy smell. if you'd like some documentation on it, i'd be happy to send you a few links.

love the new signature, btw. :D

It's not caulk I was looking at, it was sink mats, but I take it that would have the same effect. Definitely won't use them then lol (was going to use in a diy pond filter - eggcrate is insanely expensive here.)
Thanks, but I'll just take your word for it. :)
lol :thm:
