Is it wise to treat a cory with a nose abrasion with melafix? His "sore" does not look white and cottony, it looks like he scraped it. Would Melafix correct this problem?
Also, a different cory looks like his top fin is nipped. Couldnt be poor water, everything checks out well on the tests. I have just a ten gallon. I dont want to lose any fish just yet.

Prestine water works great too! ;)

melafix is safe for catfish...you want to avoid copper based medicine.

Melafix is THE STUFF. It should most defintitley heal a scrape or a fin as you described.

I try to avoid medications when possible, scrapes on plecos and catfish are not uncommon, depending on the wound of course, iv found stepped up water changes to be just as effective.......:)

it depends on stock levels and the amount you change.

when I have any injured fish I bump the water change..I normally change 30-40% twice a week on my tanks.
if there are injured fish I add 1 more water change to that tank per week until the injury is healed.

clean water work differnet ways.. it reduced waste/bacteria in the waterand allows the fish to have clean water to stay healthy.
