Does anyone here have a standard 55 gal that they could measure for me? We are about 5 hours from home visiting my parents where DH wood working tools are and I would like to have a new stand and hood

I would really appreciate it!

Are you sure thats a standard 55g? I thought i had a standard 55g and its measurements are 48" x 12" x 18"... which works out to 44g of usable water volume.

Your measurements work out to 56g of usable water volume.

The 55 sitting by my computer pretty closely matches the dimensions given in the second ref mayree cited above (for all-glass aquariums), 48 1/4 x 12 3/4 x 21. 55s do hold 55 gallons - that is wishful thinking based on exterior dimensions. One of mine holds 41 gallons actual volume, the other 42. Both do have deep substrates.
