Which of these would be best with a yellow lab? Blue peacock, johannii, perlmutt/yellowbar, purple mbuna, Msobo, zebra, and Bumble bee. I want to start a cichlid tank and i want to have a yellow lab and i need to know what some other good cichlids are to go with them. I want mostly mbuna but theres some others i like.

electric yellows will get allong with just about anything form lake malawi so any of those choices would be ok. I keep peacocks with my yellow labs, and few other mbunas and no problems they all get along and the mbunas get picked on by male peacocks. You will be safe with just about anything form malawi.

I think you should be a bit choosier in selecting tankmates for yellow labs. Any other labidochromis species (e.g, Lab. pearlmutt) should be avoided or else you might have interbreeding between Lab species. Also, some species that are conspecific (i.e., look similar to) yellow labs would also be bad. For example, Pseudotropheus lombardoi (or Maylandia lombardoi), also known as kennyi, are very bad tankmates; male kennyi are very aggressive and will kill yellow labs, as they consider them breeding competitors.

What size tank will these fish go into? That is a main limiting factor in fish selection.

well i was origionally goin to keep them in my 20 gallon until they got too big and then i was going to move them into my 75 gallon with my convicts and scats but then i did more research and decided that might not be a good idea because of different water conditions.

some people are way into fish dont get me wrong i am addicted to fish, but to think of them as smart or have feelings is a little wierd. I mean come on they will eat their own crap (then spit it out), they are not intellegent like humans so why think of them that way? <--:OT: Anyway if you are trying to breed fish then keeping similar fish that might cross breed wont work, but if you want to have a nice looking tank simialr looking fish are ok just let your other fish (and filter) take care of the fry, yum. Now as far as the agression there are some that MAY kill yellow labs usually they MAY get along buy them young and introduce together and have enough females. But for the MOST part if you keep malawis together you SHOULD be fine. There are some rules in fishkeeping but the rules can be bent alittle. My advice is try it and then they may get along or you will learn something new. Oh yeah hell no to the 10, maybe for a quarntine.

yea im not trying to breed them to sell them if they do breed and some survive i will keep these not sell them or give them away.
