male or female convicts cichlids how can you tell if there male or female ?? can someone post pic of a male and female convict so id know how to tell them apart thanks guys/girls

also does all female convicts have red/orange color on their belly or can males get that too ???

males rarely acquire that orange hue to the ventral area and this for the most part distinguishes male from female convicts. in mature fish and fish well on the way to maturity, unpaired fins are more pointed and trailing.

My experience has been that the peachy belly is the best way to identify a female.

Males usually have longer more pointed dorsal fins, but my current breeding pair has a female with unusually long and pointed dorsal fin, so the fin length and shape is not a strict rule with sexing.

females have very bright orange colors on their bellies, males are just normal black and white, males tend to grow quicker in my findings and have longer fins, sometimes even past their tail.
