Lobster Eggs!!

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience breeding blue lobsters. We have one who is carrying eggs now. She has had the eggs for about a month now and I am starting to worry about them. They have changed from black to a light brownish/tan color. Is this normal? Could this mean that the eggs are infertile or are they getting ready to hatch? Either way, what should be do? Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

changing color is a good thing... as long as they arnt getting fuzzy everything should be going well... from what I understand it can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months to hatch depending on water conditions and species... you can tell when they are a few days away from hatching when you see little untenas and eye balls.. claws and so on.. after they hatch they will hang on for a few days ... this is a good time to sweep them off with your finger into a different tank where the parents cant eat them .

No fuzzy eggs...so we are good in that respect!!! I will keep an eye on them and yes, we hope to make a couple $$$ when they hatch! Although we aren't sure where we are going to keep all of them once they hatch!

I think it would be a good idea to seperate them once they hatch, will the mother eat them? Fish would probably eat them, if they are in your tank.
I dont know alot about lobsters, but I would find out before they hatched, or you might just end up with one fat mama!

I would also think they will be very tiny when hatched, you may have to buy special food, small enough they can eat?
 
fish dont usualy eat them because they hide really well... they'll eat the same food the parents eat... they don't take one big mouthfulls or anything... they gnaw on it... so size of food doesnt really matter...

some other helpfull things....

Water quality is very important... keep it up... and calcium is awesome for aiding in the speed of their growth... and they like hard water!
 
Thanks Tai, I was having trouble finding information on them.

She's in a tank by herself(well there are 4 little ghost shrimp in there but she won't eat them) for the moment. Shes inside her half log and she has barracaded herself inside by moving all the rocks from the inside towards the outside. Shes quite the little engineer!
