When I turned on the tank light in the morning. My 8 " fancy had a round hole in her tail fin and was shredded up a little around that area. Also on the bottom of the tank... was a piece of her fin ( 3 " long by 1/4 " wide ). Looked like it had been pulled out of he??? Nothing to get caught on in the tank.... one small plastic plant. Filter tubes were on.... so not sucked into filter??. The other 8 " fish ( black moor ) has been together from the start. They like each other alot.... play together often. My question is....... Will the missing piece of fin and the tears and rips grow back and heal?? Thank you

Is there still fin tissue there? Did she lose a chunk, or like, an entire half of her tail? Pictures would help. As long as there's some tissue left though, it should grow back if it's from an injury of some sort. I'd be more concerned about why/how she lost it. If it's some sort of weird disease, then it may not grow back, and you have some more serious things to worry about. One of my goldies was picked on in the pet store though...she was missing about a half inch and it took about 2 months to grow back. Adding melafix, stress coat, medications like that should help speed recovery. Melafix should also help prevent infections. Keep an eye on how she's swimming, if there's any aggression suddenly, etc. you will probably want to move her to a qt if possible. Does it look inflamed or red or anything like that?

Mating season, perhaps? Are they male and female? Keep the water clean, and it should heal up, but it might have an abnormal shape as it heals. Probably not important unless you are showing the fish.
