I received some new tetras in the mail today from an aquabid seller. Two of the bags had holes in them, so the fish were loose in the box, and one of the bags leaked so that there was only a few tablespoons of water left.

Has anyone had problems with kordon breather bags getting holes in them during transit?

These are the pictures that I'm going to send to the seller.

Aww, I'm so sorry to hear that, Feemia :(. They look like wonderful little fish. I hope your replacements arrive okay.

The only experience I've had with kordon breather bags was when I had a shipment of fish, and they were packaged in the bags. There were no holes whatsoever. I'll list what could have happened that I've thought of, from least likely to most likely (IMO).

1. A fish bit a hole in it. I picked up some tiger barbs for a friend once, and they did this. It sounds like your fish were pretty peaceful(what did you get, anways?), though, so it's unlikely.

2. The bags were already damaged. I find this pretty unlikely myself, unless these bags have been used repeatedly or something.

3. They were damaged by the USPS. Just because of their reputation, this seems like the culprit to me.

Once again, I'm so sorry. Hope this is worked out easily :(

Been shipping fish for years and do not use them. I got fish sent in them only once out of many boxes received. They were OK but I did not like the bags at all. Each to their own, however.

On another note- the regular bags can also be defective- just had a bathc of 50 that were defective and all of them leaked.

I have shipped fish through the mails for years and have only had damage caused by how they were handled once. And I blame it on the seller using a flimsy cardboard box as opposed to a better quality one.

I just received some snails and shrimp in Kordon Breather Bags and actually, I found the bags very tough to rip open. They seemed quite durable to me. Could be the bags had weak spots in them from when the seller packaged them up.

I had a few leaks in a row back when I was single bagging everything. Seamed that the leaks were in the seam. Been double bagging most things since, though if there is very little (less than a third water) water in the bag I still single bag. I think it was a bad batch or bad few bags. Do I have confidence in them? I guarantee every thing I ship, including shipping charges. The thought of 1/3 water and 2/3 air, sloshing fish/shrimp/snails...not for me.
One thing I'm careful not to do is clip my fingernails before bagging. Tying knots with sharp nails isn't good practice  Any kind of hard/sharp debris that could have been in with the packaging material could have pierced the bag. I also lay out new newspaper over the bench/table when bagging as a safety precaution.
