ok i have given away a pink kising gourami that is about five inches long and he is currently in a fiftyfive gallon all by himself ..its my father in laws ...should we send him to the lfs ...my fil wants to go back to fresh water fish but is doing me a favor by housing this guy temporarily ..i know he still needs a bigger tank ..i had him in a 150 with a couple of blue gouramis ..one is the same size as him and the others were smaller he killed them all and i took the tank down ..what do i do with this guy? ...hes to mean to be housed in any of my tanks and i am not going to run a 150 just for him....any suggestions or tank mates that he cant/wont kill?

If I had a 150 Gallon tank and a sociopathic kissing gourami, i would get a few tin foil barbs, some clown loaches, some rainbow fish, and 6 or so tiger barbs....basically hardier asian biotope, tougher guys......maybe some plants....some drift wood....ah, just give me your tank ....I'll set it up...hehe... ;)...good luck on whatever you decide!

That is where the rule about only one gourami come to play... Some get along and others don't. You should be alright with what yofishboy recomended

I know I am a little late in posting to this message, but I just wanted you to know that I too have a psychotic kissing gourami. We have a 125 gal tank that they were in with other fish, not knowing too much about them we put them in there (they were tiny little things at the time) they ate our only remaining starter fish in there (a swordtail) who seemed to keep the peace in our tank. He also got ahold of 2 of our last clown loaches (they were placed in the tank about 2 weeks after the sword tail) they (swordtail and loaches) would have been with us for almost 2 years by now. I know this sounds really cruel but we put them in with our oscars almost hoping they would get a taste of their own medicine, but they then picked on my 10 inch oscars, chasing them around the tank and pecking at them. My oscars would let this (now hockey puck sized) gourami force them to lay on their sides on the bottom of the tank so it could peck at him. We removed the two gouramis and put them in their own tank, but I feel bad for them being alone. They (the two gouramis) get along just fine together, the really psychotic one is the smaller of the two which I find very intriguing and the larger one is the calmer of the two. I thought it would be the other way around. I don't know what I am going to do with them, I feel bad that they are alone in a smaller tank, but I am not going to risk them eating or picking on any of my other fish. So to make a long story longer, I totally understand where you are coming from with your frustration with your gourami. Good luck with them!
