I'm in the process of setting up a 10 gal ghost shrimp tank and i was wondering where i could get java moss online b/c both lfs here don't have any...
Also, what should I do when I get some? I've researched about tying it to driftwood and rocks and letting it grow, but i was wondering how to go about this method
Thanks,
John
btw im new to aquatic plants so these are probably stupid questions... sorry if they are!

used zip ties on my java moss..
I attached it to wood and rocks.

it doesn't need much attention..till it starts to grow..then you can cut it back it reach in and pull out handfulls.
oh as an experiment i took a bundle of it and zipped a tie to the middle of the bunch and have it hooked to the top of the tank..just to see what it'll do...it grows there too

http://www.aquariumplants.com/ they say they have it in stock

Do snails eat it?
We have a large mystery snail (about the size of a large golf ball) that ate every last bit of java moss in our 20gallon. I saw him munching on it shortly after we got him, and within a few days it was all gone. So I guess if they are big enough the snails will eat it.

Very low light is what came with my 55g tank. I think I have 2 15w bulbs. So I would say that is very low light lol. I think I can buy some bulbs that will fit my hood that have better wattage but I havent looked around yet.

fishyaddict, that doesn't sound like a mystery snail you have, that sounds like an apple snail. Mystery snails don't get that large and won’t eat java moss, but apple snails will, along with lost of other plants.

It's one of those dual names mystery=apple. I was confused when i used to see the two different names when I saw them talked about on here. So I looked it up and when you do a search for either name, both names come up on many sites.
Common name: Apple / Mystery snails , Brigs

Distribution: South America: Amazon River basin, from Peru, Ecuador and Colombia to the mouth of Amazon River.

Size: The size of the shell varies from 40-50 mm wide and 45-65 mm high

If only these people that name species with their common names would pick one name, the world would be so much less confusing. lol
