Is it possible to grow Java Moss like a carpet and keep it trimmed and still be able to clean your tank? And whats the best way to clean a fine sand substrate for a tank via siphoning and keeping most of the sand in?

I have a VERY thick carpeting of Java Moss in a ten, looks more like crap than carpet though;) I have seen it done but it takes a lot of time to do it right. As far as sand vacing goes just hover above the sand and it should be OK. You should expect to lose very little sand, if you see you are sucking up a lot then raise the siphon a little:)

You can tie moss to some chunks of slate and arrange the slate pieces in a carpet.

I will have to look into it I have a 90 gallon but also have a lot of slate any pictures of this being done?

foofooree has a tank that has this same exact technique with christmas moss:

Thats really nice looking! I will have to look into this do you guys think if I poke some holes in the slate the moss will hold on to it?

hmmm I didnt know it would just attach to whatever I didnt think the slate was porous enough cool beans I will have to try it I have a huge chunk floating around my tank right now on a piece of styra foam.
