Java Moss

Is it possible to grow Java Moss like a carpet and keep it trimmed and still be able to clean your tank? And whats the best way to clean a fine sand substrate for a tank via siphoning and keeping most of the sand in?

I have a VERY thick carpeting of Java Moss in a ten, looks more like crap than carpet though I have seen it done but it takes a lot of time to do it right. As far as sand vacing goes just hover above the sand and it should be OK. You should expect to lose very little sand, if you see you are sucking up a lot then raise the siphon a little

it's hard to do because it is very time consuming to keep in check. Java grows like crazy once it takes off....

You can tie moss to some chunks of slate and arrange the slate pieces in a carpet.

I will have to look into it I have a 90 gallon but also have a lot of slate any pictures of this being done?

Christmas Moss tied to slate or rocks has a very nice carpeting effect.

Thats really nice looking! I will have to look into this do you guys think if I poke some holes in the slate the moss will hold on to it?

You don't need to poke holes in it, you can just tie it on and it will hold.

hmmm I didnt know it would just attach to whatever I didnt think the slate was porous enough cool beans I will have to try it I have a huge chunk floating around my tank right now on a piece of styra foam.
