I got it along with a 5 gal from a rummage sale. it's brand new (or cleaned by someone on meth). It is a Tetra / Second Nature filter. Doesn't say the model anywhere, though it does say "Model T1" on the bottom of the impeller motor housing, but that might just be for the motor model. Here are pics.

Need to know what model so i can get filters for it. The space for the filters measures 3.25" wide by 5" tall. If anyone knows the model of this filter or can tell me what the best fit might be, let me know. tia.

It looks a lot like the filter that came with my 10 gal kit. Tetra recently changed the name of all their filter cartridges, but I think I buy the Medium sized replacement filters. That's about how big the filter space is in my filter also.

upon further inspection of my bounty, i looked through a bin that came with the tank that i thought was just full of decorations. but then i found these, which i think are filter clips or something like that.
does this help at all in figuring out which kind of filter cartridge i need?

If it fits in the slot, it's the right size. Take it to the store, and see which size cartridges match the size, and remember it for next time. :)

I recently got a 10 gal off of freecycle that came with a tetra filter...I wrapped the clip with left over padding from my wet/dry...worked like a charm...original pad was 4 bucks

The photo of the filter frame looks exactly like a Tetra "Whisper 10", available everywhere. This is an excellent product. I have had one in my 10 gal tank for about two years. Buy bulk refills rather than the pre-assembled ones and discard the charcoal packets. (Unless you really have special need.) Get an extra frame or two. When the bypass seems excessive, replace it and let the used one soak overnight in a 10-20% bleach solution. Rinse, dry and repeat. You will seldom need a brand new bag.

The Whisper 10 biological filter is a pad of open-cell foam in separate frame immediately downstream from the bag. Now and then you might need to remove this pad to rinse off the pond scum with old tank water. This shouldn't harm the bacteria colony. You may want to flush accumulated scum from the lift tube once or twice a year if the flow seems seriously diminished. -Enjoy-
