I will have a 80 gallon tank soon, and I was interested in some ideas for stocking it. I was thinking about an Oscar + something else, but I've also considered making a community tank. Any thoughts and ideas are appreciated :)

edit: Forgot to mention that I have fairly hard, high pH water (about 7.8 - 8.0 pH) Hope that doesn't cut down my stocking choices too much..

due to your water and ease of stocking, I would look at african cichlids unless you are willing to try and soften your water some. many fish can make it in different water conditions but it seems they are more apt to live and live longer in the right PH and hardness. a group of malawi fish would look very nice in there. a lot depends on what you like as to what you want to get. a tank that large opens your possibilities up quite a bit. oscars and similar fish need a little softer water but could probably survive. go to www.cichlid-forum.com and www.cichlidforums.com and check out those message boards. they will know better than I. kyle
