hey does anyone know how to tell the difference between a female and male bumblebee goby?

thanks that was really helpfull.... ;)

It appears your bumblebee gobies are in a freshwater tank. Those fish are brackish water so you might want to pick up a five gallon for them and begin converting it to brackish for them. I'm not an expert in brackish water, so if you're interested in the wellbeing of your fish, you may want to post a topic on the brackish water forum to get some suggestions on how to acclimate your fish to BW.

Excuse me if I'm wrong about the BW v. FW. Just the majority of the fish in your 30 gallon are FW.

bumblebee gobies can be kept in freshwater with no problems. They don't have to be in Brackish Water...it might improve their longevity, but they will still spawn and all in freshwater

Yea they will live for a year or 2 maybe instead of 10 years so that makes them freshwater... I had some and I learned the hardway they are brackish fish. But theres actualy a couple different kinds of BB Gobies, some will tolerate it more than others. Supposedly mine were the kind that tolerate freshwater, by the time I setup a brackish tank they were dead.

i'm going to be avidly looking for about two pairs of bumblebee gobies. i love the way they look, and i'd love to have atleast one BW fish. is there an online website that carries bumblebee gobies and that have had good reports about fish arriving alive instead of DOA?

they can survive in fw but like some one was saying it does shorten their life time drastically but to get them to spawn if you have more then one introduce them to fw and the female will lay her eggs under a rock or root and the male will fertilize them. hope that helped. to acclimate them all you really have to do is put them in some brackish water and slowly introduce some fw to the brackish over about a period of like 30 minutes maybe or longer. people say they are imtermediate fish but from my experience they are rather hardy and will tolerate alot of parammaters but thats just my experience. they also can be aggressive towards eachother i had bought 5 of them and ended up with one cause they nip alot at eachother. it's survival of the fittest
