Hey guys I need some help I have a rena Filstar and I cant seem to get it primed. Help please. I took the lil screw top off the intake and filled the hose with water. Both hoses are full as well as the canister and I can hear it running but nothing is comming out the outflow bar.
thanks much

I will tell you it takes MUCH MORE to fill that darn canister. I hate it when I have to reprise my Rena's. They are such a PIA!

I completely agree with Steph. It always takes much more water to prime than one would actually think. Once it gets going, it works like a charm, though!

Gosh I finally got it!! thanks ya all I tried over and over and it running now. It took me two hours. this is my first canister filter so its all new to me. I have never had anymore than hob filters and undergravels . So the dang thing came used with no directions and I knew it had to be primed but had no idea what the heck I was doing. But YEAH!!! i GOT IT tHANKS AGAIN. when I get the tank clear ill post pics. Its a 90 gal. Im gonna put some angels cories and plecos in it for now. I have it in the bar at my resataurant. btw it will be w eek or so befor I do. It was taken down and set back up with same filter media but Ill still wait it out to make sure it doesnt go into a big cycle.

I just set up a 2nd XP3 last week - My 1st one took ages too fill and prime, I learnt though, so this time I filled up the canister with tank water (with all media and baskets in) , then put the lid on. With the lever up I primed the hose, then lowered the lever and turned it on - much faster to get going.

Here's a little trick for repriming any canister filter with a quick disconnect set up, as long as you're doing it in conjunction with a water change. Remove enough water to completely expose the discharge of the filter without exposing the intake siphon. Disconnect and service the filter, but do not put any water into it. Reconnect the quick disconnect and watch and listen as the canister fills itself and the discharge hose to the level of the water in the tank. Plug it in and refill the tank. Works every time unless air somehow gets into the system. You can't fight physics!
