Can I plant Hornwort into gravel? Will its root rot?
I don't want to float it, because I heard somebody said it is fragile and current will break it and it will block the impeller.
My tank is 20 G. Will my small filter current break it?

Is there any other good way to plant it?

hornwort will only produce root-like apendages in very cold water. the best option is just to wrap those zinc plant weights around it to weight it down.

Unless you're using a massively powerful filter, the current in your tank is not going to break the hornwort. So don't worry about floating it; it will be fine. Floated or planted, hornwort WILL shed clusters of needles, which could eventually foul your filter impeller. Why not slip a small sponge over your filter intake to act as a prefilter? That will keep plant debris out of your filter, and it's easily cleaned - just slip it off once a week and rinse it out in the sink.

wouldnt that significantly reduce the flow (gph) of your filter? especially the canister type filters.

I have just let it float on the top of the water. Each week I'd break off hunks and toss out so it won't obscure the light to the bottom of the tank. I also have looped it around various pieces of driftwood to try to anchor it.

No. The sponges used for prefilters are coarse (they're essentially the same material as the sponges used inside the canister filter itself, just shaped a bit differently). They only block large debris, like plant fibers; water passes through them without a problem. The only way they'd interfere with flow is if the sponge wasn't rinsed out on a regular basis and became really clogged up, hence my recommendation to rinse the sponge out weekly.

hey guys, the hornworts arent doing too well. They just seem to be stalled with brownish / really stiff leaves. If you touch the leaves they will just break and fell off.

Can i just cut off ALL leaves and plant the bare stem in my main tank? and let it grow back.

If i just put it in with the leaves, my filter will be dead in a day guarenteed from hornwort leaves. It's crazy, when i got it, half the package are eaves..then i soak in bucket #1 - the entire bucket's bottom/surface then become covered with leaves, then i put the stems into a much larger bucket #2, now the whole bucket #2 is covered with loose leaves... So far i am liking the anarchis a lot better.
