I checked the tank last night at 6:00 and there were no eggs. Then, I checked it again this morning at 11:00 and there were eggs. However, the eggs feel extremely hard to the touch. I'm guessing this is a bad thing. I took the egg clutch off the tank and put it in an incubator as described in the stickied thread, and in doing so, the clutch broke in half. There was a goo that came out of the area where it broke in half. Is this a sign that there might be some viable snails in the clutch, or is this a completely bad thing?

I'm about to leave for Florida tomorrow morning for 4 days, and I have a Royal Farlowella with eggs that are about to hatch and I get my first Mystery Snail clutch. Good old Murphy's Law at work.

Brigg or mystery snail eggs do harden after being laid, this is not a problem. I have found that i have best success hatching them when I just leave them where they are laid. The gooky stuff that came out is normal also with unmatured clutches. You may have some hatch you may not. The time it takes them to hatch depends on temp and humidity I have had them take a week and then I have had them take 3 days it all depends on the above metioned factors. Good luck:)

the same thing happened with my clutch when i scraped it off the glass, only it was the whole layer of eggs that were touching the glass that were broken in half. The same gooey stuff that you described was present in my clutch but the rest of it hatched out just fine.
Beyond that advice i do not feel qualified to answer, im not exactly as experienced as a lot of people on ac lol but i do know that the eggs can dry out
Good luck!!

They should be fine. Typically wiht a tank temp around 78 it will take 8-12 days for them to hatch. Usually around day 8 you will see them get a very blueish or moldy type appearance, they typically hatch within 24-48 hours of that appearance. Best of luck and enjoy your vacation!

When I removed a clutch it broke in half and it was gooey inside. I still ended up with plenty of babies.

Thanks guys. Now, I guess I need to start worrying about the shipping permits. Never thought it was going to happen this quickly. Oh well, maybe a nice 20 gallon tank is in order for the babies until I can get the permits.

I'm still working on the shipping permits from the USDA. I'm a registered level 2 user now, and will be headed down there on Monday to show them my government issued ID (i.e., driver's license). After that, it will be working on permits for the 47 continental states that I am not located in. Hopefully, those permits will not be too hard. I looked over the 526 form, and it seemed confusing as can be, and I'm an attorney. So, I'm going to bring it with me on Monday and see if I can get some help with it.
