I already have five in there, but I was reading up on them this morning and found that they are best in schoals of 6 or more..I am one shy of that schoal mark...should I add one more? Am I at max capacity for a 25 gallon tall with my five tiger barbs? They seem pretty active and have plenty of room, the tank has live plants and is pretty stable stats wise and has a wide open carpet area in the front and left side with thick tall plants to the right and center to right rear...just want to know my limit for tiger barbs..thanks..and I look forward to utilizing this site more as I am a new member this moring

Do you plan on adding any other fish with the Barbs? If you just want Barbs in your tank you could add at least 10 more and be ok. I wouldn't add all 10 at the same time. Add 5 then wait a couple weeks and then add the other 5.

Big Mike, I dont plan on adding more species, I just like the tiger barbs and the plants..wow, you really think I can add that many? I guess i'm not that saavy anymore on stocking, several years ago I had two convict cichlids in a tank, this is my first time with any other fish..im a one species kinda guy i guess..these tiger barbs I already have are alot better than the covicts IMO because they are extremely active and fun to watch

Ya I like Tiger Barbs too. 15 Barbs in a 25 gal tank should be fine IMO.

I think 12 might be max for a 25G. I'd add 5 at a time and then take it slowly with the last 5. Just watch out for any aggresion and watch your water quality. Should be fine though. Also, keep up water changes and over filter! I love Tiger Barbs but they get too big for my tank.

Isn't a 25 tall the same footprint as a 20 tall? I'm not sure I would put any tiger barbs in a tank that size. Young ones would be ok but adults are pretty good sized.

taysius, uh oh! I dunno, I hope not..all mine are about 2.5 inches...my dimenions are 24L X 13W X 19H....hopefully this tank is sufficient for them...i looked up a 20 high..and those dimensions are 20Lx10Wx24H ... so mine is only 4 inches longer 3 inches wider and 5 inches shorter...I guess i'll see how these fish do before I add more, maybe they will get bigger, but according to most sources they only have half an inch before max size..if all of them add .5 of an inch that is and extra 2.5 inches of fish at max potential fully grown in my 25...actually 25.66 gallons, but thats not a big difference..i dunno..hope it works out..i would hate to have it overstocked

There are 3 sizes of 20g. You found dimensions for what I would call an extra tall. I personally own a regular tall which has the same footprint as your 25. There are also 20 longs.

You might be ok, I just think that a bunch of 3 inch fish would prefer a bit more length to swim. That said, I started out with 6 serpae tetras in a 10g and had to upgrade because I was advised that my tank was a bit too small for them. Maybe someday you will be able to do the same. I understand it's easier said than done though.
