seems like a stupid question i thought 32 gallons

it is 39" wide
16" high
15" deep

it is a fluval 1000 duo

i am wondering if my guess at 32 was why i failed on the salt treatment for ich

is it bigger than 32 ?

If my calculations are correct, I believe your tank is about 40 gallons.

thats cool that will give me some more inches of fish eventually

uk gallons contain more than us i think dont they

anyone know how i convert to uk gallons

and how does the inch of fish per gallon work on uk gallons (i think i will treat it as US gallon to give me a margin of error)but am curious

i read somewhere that the surface area of the tank is a good guide to fish stocking any idea how that works?

i think i want some harlequin rasboras
some cherry barbs
some neons (cross fingers)
a betta
some guppies(males only is that ok)

any suggestions or advice is more than welcome

i want lots of activity in the tank as my toddler and four year old are fish obsessed

your tank is about 34 UK gallons. The inch per gallon rules isnt a very good rule to follow in the first place so I cant help you there.

I think it would be OK to have a nice school of neons and harlequins. YOu could put a betta in there also, but the rasboras might be a bit nippy. Cherry barbs should be good in there too. Im not a fan of guppies really so IMO i would skip them and get some more neons or harlequins.

There's a very good article in these forums concerning the inch of fish per gallon rule that you should check out.

I agree with the above post concerning guppies. In my opinion, they've been overbred and are unreliable in terms of health. I've heard of too many instances in which guppies introduced disease to a tank and I won't take a chance on them - as beautiful as they may be.
