How many clown loaches would be best in a 55 gal tank?

Hello, I'm new to AC, but have kept fish for many years (off and on). This is my first time having clown loachs. I bought 2 small ones last month but feel like I should more. What's a good number for them to school? Thanks for any help. :help:

Welcome to AC!

What are the other tankmates? Make sure you have sand or small gravel as the substrate. In a 55 gallon you could probably do 4-5, just trade them in once they get to big. Welcome to AC!

Clown loaches are going to outgrow a 55, though slowly, likely a couple years at least. Any social loaches are best kept in groups of at least 5.

You could seriously put 1/2 a dozen Clown loaches in a 55 and not have to worry about them out growing it for YEARS. They grow so slow.... If you were to buy small ones 2"- 3" size you could easily put a dozen in there and not worry about crowding for at least 5 yrs.

Welcome here and to the hobby!!!

Clown loaches are one fish I would love to have, but I haven't been able to devote a big enough tank to them... They can get so large and from what I have read, a 55g is not big enough for them. If I had read otherwise, I'd have some.

Best of luck!
