I am going to move my one green spotted to a full marine tank. Right now the tank he is in is at 1.015 SG and the marine is at 1.023 SG. How long should I drip acclimate him for? I can use a clean 5 gal bucket for acclimating. He is only 2" and pretty mellow for a GSP. Going into a 55 G with a blue spotted sharp nosed puffer (C. Solandri) with 30lb live rock (cured and functioning for over a year) plus another 30 lb of base rock. Bioload shift should not be a problem- the SW had a gobie in it that commited suicide with a power head just yesterday (now have sponge over the power filter- power head was in for 6 mos. and the gobie never whent near is until yesterday). SW also has various mushroom, leather, and other soft corals (the sharp nose doesn' eat them-must be nasty tasting).

Its all relative to what you are acclimating. My fish store acclimates corals/anemones over 1-2 days.. Fish usualy an hour or two for me or till its in triple the water like smart dog said. My Inverts I do a very slow drip for about 2-3 hours.. Maybe It's a little extreme but I rather be safe than sorry.

In moving from such a different SpG, if at all possible (may not be possible if there's other inhabitants), I would work to slowly raise the SpG in the tank with the low SpG to match the SpG in the destination tank over the course of several days to a week. Then, after at the SpG matches that of the destination tank, drip acclimate the fish to the destination tank's water for about 2 hours.
