I want to get a couple neat-o city slicker snails when I head to the big city this weekend. I'm wondering how long they will last in the bag(or I can transfer them to a container, if that helps) as I am going to be away from home for the weekend. Is 3 days too long??

It can take three days to get to you in the mail. I don't know why you couldn't keep them in a critter carrier or something similar. Just make sure they don't get too cold or too hot.

depends on packing and species

i might try picking them up just before you leave, maybe, so they won't be in the bag/box/what-have-you for quite as long... that might help. >.>

I know that they can survive in a bag a lot longer than a fish because they can breath air. Bettas can also survive quite a long time in a bag but that's off the topic here.

Snails are pretty dang tough. I'd buy extra, in case some don't make it.

Which species are you getting? Apple snails do have lungs enabling them to survive outside water as long as they are damp but the dieoff tends to be bigger compared to the method where water is involved. Then again, in a matter of 3 days without filtration, the water deteriorates rapidly and can kill the snails in the process.

I had one mystery snail stuck in my package for five weeks. I forgot the poor dear when I counted all 40 snails as originally planned with my friend and didn't realize there was an extra until I decided to salvage the package for old tissue papers for the canas. I just noticed a dried lump and the snail was intact to my shock. I immediately put her in the tank and she recovered. She's still alive until now.

I also had assassins sent without water in a container and they survived the 36 hour ordeal, a delay because of some idiot not finishing his mail job effectively. They were supposed to arrive within 24 hours. All are alive.

I had assassins come in from the Netherlands with nothing but damp paper towels in a ziplock with the snails inside a piece of PVC to stop crushing for 5 days.
