I know that clove oil is used to euthanize fish and is a neurotoxin or something.... well I just did a load of laundry and I guess a bottle of clove oil was left in one of my pants pockets, it leaked into my laundry and now my clothes smell like clove oil. Should I be concerned about this? Is inhaling clove oil scent dangerous?

I'm running the load through again to try to get rid of the scent, just in case.

I think harmless in humans. but to fish it's toxic, I wouldnt worry less you clothes come in contact with tank

So the main concern is my skin.

"Some people may experience skin irritation or painful sensations from clove. This may lead to a rash; hives; burning; irritation; dry, peeling lips; blanching; chemical burns; lack of feeling; and sweating on skin exposed to clove."

I have sensitive skin. I wonder how many times I'll have to run the load through to be rid of the smell...

The laundry room isn't well ventilated and smells like clove oil now. Someone reassure me that isn't dangerous or something.

put laundry through a few rinse cycles. faster then running load sev times

I dunno, it's an oil. Wouldn't using a detergent help remove it better than just water?

about 0.3 ounces leaked out

oil float in water

the smell will linger for a while, oils stick in clothes easily. you really don't have to worry - only direct contact with the oil (i.e. pouring it all over yourself) will cause a problem. clove oil is not a neurotoxin.

It's also medicinal. I use it as colonge on occasion and as a remedy for sore tooth. It can be a skin irritant if applied directly to sensitive areas. Once or twice through the wash with hot water should remove any of the volatiles, leaving you with harmless residual oils.

This is the same stuff your dentist uses to numb your gums before giving you a shot folks.
