What are the parameters of the water you keep your clown loaches in?

My tap water has PH 8 and GH 14 which is not very comfortable for clown loaches I've heard. So I try to keep them down with peet in my filter. Thanks to peet PH is around 7,5 and GH is 12... well, somewhat better. But I don't like this brown water at all....
I've been thinking maybe it's still ok to keep them in tap water? or not?

While their may not be any immediate noticeable effects from keeping clown loaches in a high pH situation, it does seem to have potential long term effects. Even a pH of 7.5 is kind of high for them. In your situation RO water may be the best way to go. ;)

Loaches.com suggests pH 6.5-7.0, GH max of 12 dg and temp. from 78-83.

That said I have a group, some of which are pushing 8 inches, that I have had for over 6 years and which have thrived in pH 7.4, GH 6dg and temps in the 83-84 range.

If you are using peat be sure to keep an eye out for pH fluctuations, especially at wc time if you are not using pre-treated (peated) water for your changes.

Please ignore my last reply to this post. I read clown loach and was thinking clown pleco.

Loaches should have a slightly acidic to neutral ph.
