Hi, my two Apple snails seem to me somewhat inactive lately, eating a lot less. So I got to reading about them more and I found out that apple snails have a hibernation period which usually starts at end of summer/fall and throughout winter. Are you guys experiencing the same with yours? I wanna make sure it is not some illness. They are eating a lot less, most at night and during the summer they would walk all over the place but now they are doing their walking at night and "sleep" almost all day. If hibernation is not the case, what could be the cause of the inactivity?

How warm is the tank?

Also they don't really need to hibernate, it's just a survival trick if their in scarce conditions.

If these are Pomecea Diffusa (briggs mystery snails) I dont know what to tell you. I am in Northern Indiana and my guys are all over the place day and night. Mating, laying eggs, parasnailing. I am not running a heater on the tank an temps are staying pretty constant at 72 degrees F. Hope everything is ok with your apples. Have you changed temp or photo period? Perhaps you'll get more responces to this thread in the freshwater inverts page.

Thanks for replies. I live in the caribbean so without the little fan I have blowing at the top of my tank the water would be at 86 degrees or more. With the fan during day it stays at 82 degrees and with the air conditioner in my house it drops down to 76. Would a mod change this thread to the inverts section? If not I'll copypaste
