I have been using this filter and pump for about 3 or 4 years now and have never had this much trouble getting it set up. The fiter is a Tetra PF2 clear choice filter. The pump is a beckett 535 gph pond pump. The filter says it can handle up to 700 gph pumps so I don't think that is the problem. I am having problems with the filter filling up with water and then overflowing. I am a little stumped. I am doing nothing different than I have in the past so I really don't know what to do. Anyone have this problem before?

Like I said I have used this exact same set up for several years and have never had this much trouble setting it back up for the season.

Are you priming the filter at all? If you are or if you don't have to, I would say that maybe something is pulling too much water in at once. If the pump you're using is the same you've used before with no problems, then maybe something is causing it to overdrive itself. I'm no expert on pond filters, but it sounds to me like something may need replacing. Sorry if I couldn't help any. Someone should come along with more knowledge on this.~Angela

Doesn't make much sense..but somewhere there is a blockage for the outflowing water. I can't see anything that would make your pump overwork unless the head pressure on the pump has changed..is the filter in a different location? Even that shouldn't make that much difference.

Check outflows?

Nope pump position, filter location, everything was the same. I was stumped. I decided to give it another try last night and low and behold it worked. I did nothing different than I did the other day. Still trying to explain that one. At least it works now. Nothing like starting the season and finding out that you need to replace pumps/filters.

Thanks for your suggestions.

A doo-hicky thingy?

Lordy, I sell these and can't think of what it's called, but they should never overfill if it's assembled correctly. The water should never get that high. In one of the pieces that goes into the filter at the top, this piece has a certain design that prevents water from being able to go back out. And it should be a certain diameter hose going in and a certain diameter hose going out. That's probably the first place to start.....Call Tetra if you have to. I can get you the 800 number if needed or look online. I can try to dig out a booklet if you don't figure it out.
