My neighbor's daughter just got a betta for her birthday, and her parents got a 1 gal tank for it. It still gets pretty chilly at night here- I babysit her during the day and some evenings, and their house gets down to the low 60's (at least) at night. Is there a heater that she can put in this tank to keep the temp up a bit? All the ones I have seen are rated for not less than 2 gal. I would think one of those might work, but it would have to have a thermostat feature, not "always on," and I haven't seen any of those either.

Any suggestions? My suggestion was that they take the tank back and get a bigger one, but they got it on sale and it can't be returned.

A Hydor Theo 25 watt submersible heater might fit the tank, and it is adjustable. I use that heater in my 2 gallon with no issues.

just put a light bulb next to/over it.

A 5 gallon may be alittle easier to find something that would work, The beta would be happier also..
{I think hydor makes a 7.5w submersible heater mat that takes up very little space.}
Good idea also...

Thanks for all the replies, everyone. I'm afraid that even the Hydor 7.5W mat heater might be too much, since it is always on, not controlled with a thermostat.

I also thought of the lightbulb next to the tank idea, but I think for that to work, it would have to be on all the time, especially at night, and I didn't want this girl's betta to get too stressed out by the constant light. Not to mention that the tank is in her bedroom.

I'll suggest the Hydor Theo 25w to her parents, since it's adjustable. Thanks webcricket!

insulate the tank at night...cover it in a towel/blanket. monitor temp to see if that works.
