Trying to get some ideas on keeping multiple bettas warm. I would prefer to keep them in gallon sized bowls as opposed to dividing a fish tank or individual mini aquariums. Anybody have success with using a heat pad with the bowls sitting on top? Or something with Flex Watt heat tape, similar to what is done in the reptile hobby? Also considering a ceramic heat bulb. I live in MN and it would be unfeasible to heat up the entire house. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for reading.

Ummmm why not just a standard aquarium heater?

yeah, I think it's the small size of the "bowls" that are preventing him from being able to use a heater. I just hope you're doing water changes A LOT to keep that water clean.

The only problem with heat pads would be controlling the temperature. They're not really designed for that purpose, so might end up swinging your temp's all over the place.

Is the heat pad (as you refer to it) a heating pad? What about starting a fire or getting electrocuted if tank breaks?

the big problem would be controlling the temp..

maybe have the heating pad near the bowl..allow radiant heating to occur by heatin up the air near the bowls.

smallest heater that i know of is this Mini-Heater for 2-5 gallon aquariums. its only 7 and half watts so its really designed for small aquariums in weather thats not freezing cold.

a gallon bowl would be a bit too small for bettas, the best feesible way to house multiple bettas is to purchase a 10G tank, 2 or 3 dividers, a 50watt heater and your ready to go.

They do make submersible heating pads that will increase the temperature of a 5 gallon tank by 3-5 degrees. I got one last year at Meijers (supermarket essentially) for my betta in the winter months and it worked great, kept the temp around 74-76. I put mine under the gravel in the giant bowl he is in.
