What would happen if I added 1 male "Red Fin" Hap. sp. 44 to a tank of "Dayglow fulu" Hap. Sp's??? Would that be so terrible or could they be fine? I'm setting up a 35 gallon for 20 Hap sp "Dayglow" fry (no longer really fry... 2-3 inches now) I have a friend who needs to rehome her Hap sp. 44... Wanted a speciese-specific tank... so I'm questioning if they will interbreed (which is a no-no in my book) and I am under the impression the "Red Fins" are more aggressive than the "Dayglows"???? I could add him to my community tank but I'm slowly gathering new tanks to keep them lake-specific. The community is mostly Malawi except for a "Dayglow" who will be in the new tank with other Vicorias... ... .... anyone have any insight on this???

Thank you!

Interbreeding isn't likely; the single odd male will have too much competition from the "proper" males to get any action. Interspecific aggression shouldn't be fatal unless the males look too much alike. I currently (temporarily) have 8 P. nyereri sharing a 55 with 8 "ruby green" Hap's w/out any problems. They're still quite young, only a couple males showing their colors, and not even half fully grown.

Thank you for the input. I suppose its just a case of watch and see. I love the Victoria Lake cichlids. I just picked up my first guy and threw him in the community tank before I knew what I was doing. Loved the species and decided to fix him up with a harem of ladies. LOL. :)
