Newbie question here... I looked on eBay last night and I saw a number of seller's selling silk aquarium greenery that is apparently HANDMADE by them. And they state this in the auction. I saw a total of 3 separate sellers before starting to wonder if I can make these myself rather then pay them the $11+ s/h that they are charging per... Some even advertise the grenery as "custom made" making it to match whatever length/size specifications you request.

Does anyone know how to go about making your own silk aquarium plants? A google search proved useless as I got a million and one results about silk vs plastic.

I don't have any help to offer, but I'm giving this a bump as I'm interested to hear what anyone has to say!

It would be nice if you could make them, as the ones in the lfs are certainly pricey. I guess the important thing is knowing if the material you use is safe for the fish. I do like the look of the "silk" ones better than the plastic - they look more authentic, and it seems like they would feel better when cruising by 'em.

I've always used regular silk plants from dollar stores. You can buy them cheaper than you can make them. I really liked a pothos vine that had a wire center so I could bend it to any position. As long as the wire isn't exposed (it can rust) it will be fine in your tank. I rinse them well first, of course.
