My husnad did not get me the bucket I asked for , I was outside using cooking oil and a green scubby to remove duct tape residue from around my car window, that was just repaired And I needed soapy water to remove the oil.

If I have run hot water in the fish only bucket until no more bubbles show and it doesn't smell like soap am I ok to continue using the bucket for my fish chores?

They say some of the residue can last quite a while. I don't know that for sure with dish soap though. I'm sure someone will have an idea on a counteracting agent (maybe bleach followed by a dechlorinator or a vinegar solution)

Here's what I did when a similar thing happened to me (with Dawn dish soap in fish bucket).

Rinsed it out until no bubbles with water blasting in on high. Let it dry. Blast water in and scrub with a brand new roughpad sponge to make sure all residue is gone. Rinse and make sure no bubbles.

Or you could give it a nice vinagar and water bath. vinager strips off everything. I have washed items with soap and water, and then dipped and swirled in vinager to get the residue off, then rinsed in plain water. I really have had no consequences of a serious nature yet.

Make sure it dries completely each time you spray it out, and do this at least 5 times. How I would do it.

To be honest and to avoid taking a risk I'd pick up a new bucket at Walmart. They should not be too expensive and you avoid having to risk your fish. This is probably the more intelligent way of going about it. And keep your hubby away from it!

Yeah 5g buckets at Home Depot are like $2 unless you live out in the boonies I'd just go buy another bucket. I have like 3 extra unused homer buckets and a couple brute garbage cans stored away just in case. Stocked up a couple months ago when the GF washed her car with my 5g bucket.
