Hi ...

I've had a male and female green terror about 3-4 Inches long
I heard breeding at this size is common
I originally had them in a 4 foot community tank
but decided to move them into a 2 foot tank with no other fish to encourage breeding
but since I've put them in they have just been liplocking
does this mean breeding is out of the picture or just a way of the female testing the males strength to see if he's a compatible partner =/ ?

Any information would be very helpful
thanks

Sounds like breeding behavior to me. Do they also shimmy and tail slap each other? Breeding can be rough on females especially in the more aggressive breeds. GT's are pretty aggressive so I would think that this is not out of the ordinary. Is your male developing a hump?

If so, then they are most likely feeling each other out.

thanks for the reply,
Hmm I havent seen them tail slap each other , the male just chases the female around pretty aggressively. My male doesnt have a hump as such yet ,
any suggestions on encouraging them to breed ?

That is mating behaviour, but until she stands up to him they won't breed. He'll just chase her around badgering her until she's ready. You might want to put a divider up if he starts shredding her fins. That's a good indication she's not ready and he'll likely kill her if she gets to that point. Make sure the divider is clear or something like eggcrate that they can see each other through. Fatten her up with some frozen bloodworms. A hump is a sign of age not of sexual maturity. They can breed well before the male develops a nuchal hump. GT are mildly aggressive in comparison to a lot of fish I've kept.
