i bought a baby 1" green terror yesterday and he is the plainest thing. mostly silvery grey with faint green stripes near his mouth area. theres a slight faded orange stripe along his dorsel fin.
is this normal for babies? when do they start showing color? or is this it?

Well, to tell you the truth, it can vary a lot. But from my experience, GT juvies should show good color already......

It could be that you got a female, which are less colorful than the males, but it could also be genetics, and your fish just won't be as colorful as some others. Just keep your water quality high, feed it a varied diet and hope for the best.

Yes mine wa about an inch when I bought him and he was just bueatful. He over 6 inches now and my best looking newworld cichlid.

after looking at several pictures i think hes a white saum.
the other green terrrors he was with (a larger ones) had the white tail tip instead of orange or red, and this one has it too, what throws me off is the slight orange in the dorsal fin

Ok I donbt know how to spell this.
The common Green Terors come from Equidoor
The more colorful ones have the white trim and are expensive. They come from Paru.
Doese it look like a GT with white trim on his fins instead of orange?

well his fins have been chewed off, he was bullied in petco by his larger gt tanks mates, and those larger ones had white tipped tail fins, none had red or orange, mine has a slight tint of orange on his dorsal fin but now its gone and hes just really really plain. i took a picture of him, you can see his tail fin has been nipped. maybe hes a mix of the 2 gt since petco usually has poor quality cichlids.
i got him at petco, i was going to get the bigger one 2" with the solid white tips but i passed because he was obviously the aggressor...now im kicking myself lol...i can always go back and get him but he may kick the butt out of my other fish not to mention this tiny little gt who is probably so happy hes rid of the bast*** lol
any way heres a pic, hes very tiny only an inch, i wonder if its a female?

He doesn't look like a GT to me either. I don't know what type he is you might be right.

LOL its a freak fish
oh the poor thing. but hes happy and eats well, not sure about his fins though if those are war wounds or fin rot. ill know in time if they grow back
ahh he was only 4.99 and if he lives to be an adult it will be a surprise as to what he will look like
he looks like a bad blue acara x green terror
it could be a sad looking female gt

i think it's a male, due to coloration and the big head....just a guess, that's what my male looked like when about 3 inches
